Today we had plans to go to the beach with our friend Riccardo from Genova, who decided to come to Rome for a little vacation. We met him and his friend at the train station by noon and took the train for about an hour to Nettuno beach. Riccardo's friend, Amadeo, has a beach apartment there where we were going to stay. It's very common for people from Rome to have beach houses/apartments because it gets unbearably hot in the city. When we arrived we went to the beach that was just a minute walk from his place. We started throwing a ball around in the water and playing some games until poor Riccardo stepped on a sea urchin. The funniest part was that we were just talking about how he stepped on one last summer (in the exact same area). We tried operating on his toe to remove some of the spikes but they were too deep in so we told him he had to just walk it off until they eventually came out. Too scared to go back in the water here we left this beach and went to another one. They took us here the real European way... On their scooters! When we got to the new beach we played some volleyball with Amadeo's friends and then went swimming again. It was great having such fun company! When we got back to the house the boys prepared a delicious BBQ for us. We spent the rest of the night laughing and telling stories. Such a great way to wind down after many long tiring days of site seeing.
