Anya and myself were lucky enough to be invited by a few of our new friends to a beautiful, mountainous area just North of Nice called Provence-Alpes-cote d'azur. Located just a three hour train ride from the very south of France, this magical area is filled with mountains, acres of land, and the most gorgeous view of the French alps. We took an early morning train, got there at 10am and were picked up by our Amsterdam friend we met in Nice, Maarten. The view from the car itself was glorious and picturesque. The drive from the station wasn't too long and we eventually got to the home we were staying at for the next couple days. Francis, one of Maarten's friends invited us in with open arms into the home, which her mother owned including other cottages and 600 acres of open land. It was absolutely gorgeous and we felt like the luckiest girls in the world. We had a quick snack and then headed to the downtown area of the small town she lived in to have a drink and chat a bit. Soon after, we drove up to the top of one of the mountains and had a picnic while overlooking the French alps. More beautiful than any view I've ever seen in my life, I took about a hundred pictures. Our picnic included potatoes, chicken, salami, baguette, cheese, a tomato salad, cherries and was accompanied by a rose French wine. It was absolutely delicious (thank you Francis)! After spending a few hours at the top of the mountain, we headed back home and relaxed. Later that evening, we had a delicious bbq dinner prepared by a Belgian family, staying in one of the other cottages owned by Francis's mother. While I sat and socialized after dinner, Anya explored the beautiful surrounding area of the home and later that night, we all gazed in amazement at the stars.
