Day 54 - The Coliseum and other thins

We started off our Monday with a visit inside the great Roman coliseum. Waiting the forty minutes to get in was well worth it. As soon we took our first steps into the coliseum, we were taken aback by the flawless beauty of the ruins. Instantly, we could picture this magnificent piece of ancient Roman architecture in its glory days. After visiting the coliseum, we explored an ancient village located beside it, where we saw the famous Arco Di Tito and Palatino. The heat really started getting to us a few hours into our sight seeing (40 degrees!!!) so we headed back to the hostel and relaxed in our air conditioned room. It wasn't until the late afternoon that we ventured out again into the city. We visited several famous landmarks such as the gorgeous Fontana Di Trevi, the Palazzo Montecitorio, Area Sacra, and the Pantheon. All works of art, we admired every detail of each and could not stop taking pictures. Our evening ended with visits to two famous squares: P.zza Navona (famous for its fountains, restaurants, and live music) and Campo de Fiori (well known for its night life and street performers). We spent more time in Campo de Fiori and met a lovely couple from Seattle, who were travelling through Europe as well. They told us a touching story about how they had just recently adopted a stray puppy from Sarajevo, Bosnia. One of our favourite parts about travelling is meeting amazing people and hearing their life stories. We had some drinks and got lost in conversation for a good few hours. Such a great unexpected night in Roma!
